Strategic Humanitarian Services (SHUMAS) is a developmental and humanitarian Non-Governmental Organization with main mission being to reduce poverty and empower people to realize the fullest of their potentials, without compromising posterity. SHUMAS is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Nutrition Supervisor (Nutritionist) to spearhead our Integrated Nutrition and Health Initiative in the Logon and Chari Division of the Far North Region, Cameroon. This is a rewarding opportunity to directly impact the lives of vulnerable children and pregnant/breastfeeding women by preventing malnutrition and promoting healthy practices.

Position: Nutrition Supervisor (Nutritionist)

Location: Logon and Chari Division, Far North Region, Cameroon

Job Summary:

As the Nutrition Supervisor, you will be at the forefront of our efforts to combat malnutrition. You will oversee the implementation of a comprehensive program encompassing SAM case management, community-based prevention strategies, mother-led screening initiatives, and climate change awareness. Your leadership will be instrumental in empowering communities to build a healthier future.

Key Responsibilities:

Ø  Management of SAM Cases:

•        Oversee the identification, treatment, and follow-up of children with Severe Acute Malnutrition (SAM) in collaboration with local health facilities.

•        Ensure strict adherence to treatment protocols and maintain adequate supplies of essential nutrition commodities.

•        Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of SAM management interventions, identifying challenges and implementing solutions.

Ø  Prevention of Malnutrition:

•        Develop and implement impactful community sensitization campaigns focused on Infant and Young Child Feeding (IYCF) practices, vaccination importance, deworming, and dietary diversity.

•        Oversee exhaustive quarterly screenings for malnutrition in targeted communities.

•        Collaborate closely with local health authorities and partners to ensure integrated care for all cases of Moderate Acute Malnutrition (MAM).

Ø  Training on Mother MUAC:

•         Lead comprehensive training sessions for mothers on how to accurately measure Mid-Upper Arm Circumference (MUAC) to screen for malnutrition in their children.

•         Establish a robust system for follow-up referrals for children identified as malnourished during screenings.

•         Provide ongoing support and mentorship to trained mothers to ensure effective monitoring of children's nutritional status and community outreach.

Ø  Effective Project Monitoring:

·       Oversee the implementation of monitoring and evaluation (ME) frameworks to track project progress.

·        Conduct regular site visits and assessments to evaluate the effectiveness of nutrition interventions

·       Analyze ME data to identify trends, challenges, and areas for improvement, and adjust project strategies accordingly.

Ø  Management of Complaints and Feedback:

·       Ensure that all complains and feedback are duly channeled and treated

·       Ensure responses,  actions taken and outcomes achieved in relation to feedback and complain are properly tracked and reported

Ø  Budget Management and Accountability:

·       Monitor project expenditures to ensure they align with the approved budget and financial guidelines.

·       Work with the finance officer to prepare budget forecasts and track spending against the budget to identify any discrepancies.

·       Ensure proper documentation of all financial transactions and make sure that there is regular provision of financial justifications and reports to Partners.

Ø  Liaison with Partners and Stakeholders:

·       Ensure proper communication between the organization and the donor organization

·       Attend regular meetings with partners to discuss project progress, share best practices, and address challenges collaboratively

·       Foster strong relationships with stakeholders to promote collaboration and support for nutrition initiatives

Ø  Overall Project Oversight:

·       Provide comprehensive oversight of all project activities to ensure they align with organizational goals and objectives.

·       Develop project plans, timelines, and work schedules to guide implementation.

·       Provide regular feedback to management on project performance, donor feedback and recommendations. 

·       Ensure all project logistics are well followed up and maintained. 

Ø  Commitment to PSEA:

•          Demonstrate a strong commitment to preventing Sexual Exploitation and Abuse (PSEA) in all aspects of your work.

•        Sign a code of conduct, adhere to the organization’s guidelines on PSEA, and actively promote a culture of respect, integrity, and accountability.

Ø  Other:

•          Participate in the development of project proposals.

•          Carry out any other assignment given by management.

•        Produce high quality reports as required by the project.

Qualifications and Skills:

Essential:

•          Master’s Degree in Nutrition, Public Health, or a closely related field.

•          Minimum of 5 years’ experience in nutrition program management, with a strong   emphasis on community-based settings.

•          In-depth understanding of child nutrition, maternal health, and public health principles.

•          Excellent communication, interpersonal and teamwork skills, with the ability to build strong relationships with diverse stakeholders.

•          Proven ability to work collaboratively with local health authorities, 

•          Strong proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

•          Excellent command of English and fluency in French (essential for effective communication in the region).

•          Ability to ride a motorbike and possess a valid motorbike license (skills will be tested during the interview process).

Desirable:

•          Experience working in the Far North Region of Cameroon or similar contexts.

•          Knowledge of local languages spoken in the Logon and Chari Division (Fulfulde and Arab).

Reporting:

The Nutrition Supervisor will report directly to the Nutrition Officer and will be responsible for providing regular, detailed updates on project activities, challenges, and outcomes. This includes preparing comprehensive reports for stakeholders as required.

Duration: This is a full-time position expected to last for the duration of the project, with potential for extension based on funding and project needs.
