SHUMAS Joins Partners to Promote “#NoSEAInMyCommunity” in Benakuma, North West Region
In commemoration of the “#NoSEAInMyCommunity” campaign, #SHUMAS, in collaboration with other humanitarian actors, conducted a community awareness activity in Benakuma Sub Division aimed at strengthening awareness and prevention of #SexualExploitation and #Abuse (#PSEA).
The campaign brought together approximately 300 community members, including women, men, young people, community leaders, and other community stakeholders.
Participants were sensitised on #ProtectionFromSexualExploitationAndAbuse (#PSEA), with emphasis on recognising SEA, understanding the rights of community members, and knowing how and where to report concerns safely and confidentially.
The awareness session also highlighted the importance of maintaining respectful relationships between humanitarian workers and the communities they serve.
Participants were reminded that #HumanitarianAssistance must always be provided without demanding sexual favours, money, gifts, or any other form of personal benefit in exchange for assistance or services.
#SHUMAS and its humanitarian partners further encouraged community members to speak up when they experience or witness inappropriate behaviour. The session provided information on available #ComplaintsAndFeedbackMechanisms (CFM) and reinforced the principle that everyone has a role to play in preventing SEA and promoting safe, dignified, and accountable humanitarian assistance.
The strong participation of community members demonstrated the importance of bringing #PSEA messages closer to the people and ensuring that communities understand their rights and the standards expected from humanitarian organisations and their personnel.
Through the “#NoSEAInMyCommunity” campaign, #SHUMAS reaffirmed its commitment to #ZeroTolerance for sexual exploitation and abuse and to working with communities, humanitarian partners, and other stakeholders to create safer environments where people can access humanitarian assistance with #Dignity, #Safety, and #Respect.
Together, we can make our communities safer:
#NoSEAInMyCommunity.
