SHUMAS Marks #WorldBreastfeedingWeek2026

From 1–7 August 2026, Strategic Humanitarian Services (SHUMAS) joins the global celebration of #WorldBreastfeedingWeek, an initiative led by the WHO and UNICEF under the theme, "Breastfeeding for a Sustainable Start in Life: Strengthening What Works.".

#ExclusiveBreastfeeding during the first six months remains one of the most effective ways to protect infants from #Malnutrition, neonatal infections, and diarrhoeal diseases. Through this campaign, SHUMAS is raising awareness, dispelling myths, and empowering families to give every child the healthiest start in life.

The campaign reached selected health facilities across the #Kousseri, #GarouaI, and #GarouaII Health Districts, including the Laindé District Medical Centre (CMA) and the Integrated Health Centres of Souari and Kollere. SHUMAS breastfeeding counsellors, midwives, community health workers, and #UReporters engaged mothers and families through practical demonstrations on proper breastfeeding techniques, counselling on early initiation of breastfeeding, skin-to-skin contact, delayed cord clamping, continued breastfeeding up to two years and beyond, as well as psychosocial support and family engagement sessions to strengthen support for breastfeeding mothers.

Beyond #WorldBreastfeedingWeek, SHUMAS remains committed to strengthening #MaternalHealth and #ChildHealth by building the capacity of health workers and mobilising communities to ensure every mother receives the knowledge, confidence, and support needed to give every child a healthy start.
